Tone Software develops and markets a suite of software products that transform z/ OS application output into PDF and other formats and automatically distributes the results via email, FTP, or “the Cloud”. Since 1974, TONE has been helping organizations deliver IBM mainframe information to employees, customers, and business partners. Figure 1 provides an overview of TONE Software’s z/OS report transformation and delivery solutions used by almost 100 customers worldwide. All TONE products are commercial-strength, fully-supported and cost-effective solutions that leverage System z assets and provide a high ROI.

JES2Mail/FTP and CICS2PDF are TONE’s two families of z/OS batch and online report output transformation and delivery solutions. These solutions provide customers the ability to deliver mainframe reports and other content in formats and via mechanisms that make the data easy to view and use. Results can be securely delivered either by email to a recipient’s mailbox or by placing files onto an FTP server or “Cloud” environment for notification and access via links in a web browser.

TONE supports customers and a small network of worldwide distributors from our California support center. The company is privately held.

A large percentage of mission-critical reports and documents are generated by core business applications that run in z/OS. The electronic delivery of reports and documents improves service and productivity while reducing costs and leveraging existing assets.

• Improved service to customers, employees, and business partners by reducing print related costs and logistics and increasing the delivery speed, ease-of-use and value of print content.

• Simplified infrastructure and reduced costs through the efficient and secure e-delivery of mainframe output, using universally supported presentation and print formats such as Adobe PDF and HTML.

• Higher productivity by delivering the right information to the right person at the right time using tools (email, web browsers, and Acrobat Reader) familiar to virtually every computer user.

JES2Mail and JES2FTP are z/OS products specifically targeted for the efficient and secure transformation and delivery of mainframe print content via email and FTP—in standard universally supported formats (i.e., PDF, HTML, RTF, commadelimited, and XML). The products can be used standalone or in concert with traditional “Report Distribution and Archiving Systems”, such as CA-Deliver, Mobius, and others to add an automatic, robust delivery capability.

JES2Mail/FTP securely transforms JES and sequential file output into simple or enhanced PDF documents, HTML, XML, .CSV, and other formats directly on the mainframe and delivers the results via email, secure FTP, and to “the Cloud” using RSS web feeds. The JES2Mail/FTP Report Processing Language (RPL) and PDF Overlays (Overlays) technologies are components that provide additional power, flexibility, and functionality. Key capabilities include:

• Encrypt and password-protect any PDF (and any files embedded in the PDF document);

• Mask select data, add dynamic watermarks, and more to protect sensitive data and verify authenticity;

• Create rich, ‘camera-ready’ PDF documents with graphics, watermarks and barcodes.

Figures 2 and 3 show the typical JES2Mail/ FTP workflow and an example of a rich, enhanced PDF document that it can create and deliver.

CICS2PDF is a CICS tool to dynamically create secure PDF documents from CICS applications. It utilizes the advanced PDF overlays and scripting capabilities of JES2Mail/JES2FTP to provide a permanent, portable, secure solution using Adobe’s PDF format. CICS2PDF supports Adobe Acrobat encryption and compression, and can create complex PDF documents in real-time, containing overlays, watermarks, images, bookmarks and other elements, like those shown in Figure 3.
