3270 TERMINAL EMULATION, 3270 WEB ACCESS, APPLICATION INTEGRATION, APPLICATION MODERNIZATION, CICS, GUI, IMS, VTAM SESSION MANAGER

The VIRTEL Company (VIRTEL), a division of the Syspertec Group, is a French independent software publisher founded in 1993 that develops, markets, and supports a comprehensive suite of System Z access and modernization technologies. VIRTEL has over 30 years experience helping organizations modernize access to and integration with z/OS and z/VSE applications to save money, simplify support, and improve mainframe security.

Virtel Web Suite

Virtel Web Suite is a suite of mainframebased technologies that serve host applications as HTML5/JavaScript web pages and/ or standard web services over secure TCP/ IP connections. It is comprised of three (3) product configurations utilizing the same underlying protocol conversion technology.

Virtel Web Access (VWA) is a pluginfree, browser-based 3270 terminal emulation solution that securely serves 3270 screens as HTML5/JavaScript web pages to any web-enabled device. VWA replaces outdated TN3270 terminal emulators and VTAM session managers to save hard dollar licensing/support costs, simplify support, and improve mainframe access security.

Virtel Web Modernization (VWM) creates modern Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) for 3270 applications. Using it’s next-gen IDE called Virtel Screen Redesigner (VSR), it securely serves 3270 host transactions as customized, user-friendly web pages to create a genuine web 2.0 UI experience that improves the usability and extends the life of legacy applications and investments.

Virtel Web Integration (VWI) creates interactive, bi-directional connections that integrate mainframe and server applications using standard web services protocols and formats to provide a highly scalable, resilient and cost-effective application integration outcome.

Technology

The Virtel infrastructure is comprised of Virtel mainframe started tasks (STCs), one or more VTAM/SNA interfaces to 3270 applications, an HTTPS server managing SSLencrypted TCP/IP connections with the Internet, and a conversion engine between VTAM/SNA and TCP/IP technologies. (see Figure 1)

Virtel Web Access (VWA) – 3270 Terminal Emulation in a Web Browser

Virtel Web Access (VWA) securely serves 3270 screens as standard HTML5/JavaScript webpages over encrypted HTTPS connections to plugin-free web browsers. VWA provides near identical 3270 terminal emulation (TE) ergonomics as outdated TN3270 products, and is an attractive modernization replacement for TN3270 emulators and VTAM session managers.

With VWA, there is:

• Nothing to install or support outside of z/ OS or Z/VSE

• Instant deployment by simply pointing a web browser to a specified URL

• Platform independence because it works with any browser on any web-enabled device

• Simple cross-application navigation using the Virtel Tier Application Menu for VTAM session manager replacement

Virtel Web Modernization (VWM) – Modern Web GUI for 3270 Applications

Virtel Web Modernization (VWM), featuring the next-gen Visual Screen Redesigner (VSR) IDE, transforms host transactions into web pages that produce a genuine web experience (see Figure 2). VWM overcomes issues early generations of 3270 GUI interface tools experienced and is a better, faster, and more cost-effective solutions than redeveloping, replacing, rehosting, or frontending 3270 applications.

Visual Screen Redesigner (VSR):

• Utilizes an intuitive, powerful IDE that features a drag-and drop interface design, customizable widgets, re-useable HTML templates, and a real-time preview capability • Requires NO change to the mainframe application

• Can be developed by personnel familiar with the legacy 3270 application

• Requires no web development skills

Virtel Web Integration (VWI) – Superior performance in a small footprint

Virtel Web Integration (VWI) creates realtime, bidirectional connections to integrate host applications like CICS and IMS with server applications to produce a highly scalable and resilient application integration result. VWI exposes host transactions either through legacy 3270 screen UIs or a COMMAREA for screenless transactions.

Virtel Web Integration (VWI):

• Supports any web services protocol and formal: RESTful, XML, JSON, SOAP, MQ, and more

• Requires NO code changes when using 3270 screen UIs

• Retains business logic with screenless transactions

• Provides superior performance and scalability in a small host footprint
