ENERGY JOURNEY by: wensdy von buskirk / photos by: brad ziegler Sustainable spirits DTE helps Wine Palace save for the future. As co-owners of Wine Palace in Livonia, brothers Cliff and Kelly Denha carry on a legacy of business ownership started by their father more than 60 years ago. Their store is one of the most successful independent liquor retailers in Michigan and has an enormous beverage selection: It’s a destination for far-flung connoisseurs and neighbors alike. As the Denhas honor their past, they’re looking toward a sustainable future with help from DTE Energy. For almost 10 years, the pair have worked with DTE to install energy-efficient upgrades one project at a time. Since 2013, the Denhas have fitted ceiling light fixtures with LED bulbs to shed warm light on the bottles that line the walls. They’ve upgraded to LEDs inside the refrigerator cases that hold sparkling seltzers and the climate-controlled humidor filled with cigars.
