The Energy Marketers of America (EMA) is a federation of 49 state and regional trade associations representing family-owned and -operated small-business energy marketers throughout the United States. Energy marketers represent a vital link in the motor and heating fuels distribution chain. EMA members supply 80 percent of all finished motor and heating fuel products sold nationwide, including renewable hydrocarbon biofuels, gasoline, diesel fuel, biofuels, heating fuel, jet fuel, kerosene, racing fuel and lubricating oils. Moreover, energy marketers represented by EMA own and operate approximately 60,000 retail motor fuel stations nationwide and supply motor fuels to an additional 40,000 gas stations and heating fuel to more than 5 million homes and businesses.

The origins of EMA date back to 1909 when the Independent Petroleum Marketers of the United States was formed. That group died out, but in 1940, another national organization, the President’s Council of Petroleum Marketers Association, was formed. In 1948, that group became the National Oil Jobbers Council (NOJC). In 1984, NOJC changed its name to the Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA). In 2020, PMAA changed its name to the Energy Marketers of America (EMA) to reflect its growing portfolio of affordable, efficient and environmentally friendly liquid fuels that are helping to reduce emissions while propelling Americans forward.

EMA’s primary mission is to unify energy marketers nationally through their state and regional associations in order to effectively further their common business interests. To achieve this mission, EMA seeks to:

• Serve as the collective voice of marketers and their state associations and provide comprehensive national legislative and regulatory representation;

• Provide meaningful meetings and forums where members can learn about and develop consensus on important national issues;

• Maintain processes that ensure effective two-way communications between state associations and EMA; and

• Develop member service programs that are national in scope and beneficial to marketers and/or their state and regional trade associations.

EMA Officers 2024

Brad Bell is the owner/ president of Connell Oil Inc. dba CO-ENERGY. The corporate office is located in Pasco, Washington, with 11 other offices and bulk plants located throughout eastern Washington, Idaho and Oregon. He has been in the petroleum business for 36 years since his parents purchased Connell Oil Inc. dba CO-ENERGY in 1987. Brad and his dad ran the oil business while his mom took care of their cattle ranch. Brad took over as president of Connell Oil in 2002 and has continued to expand the business throughout eastern Washington, Idaho and Oregon. He attributes his success to hard work 24/7 and the teamwork of his employees.

Brad is very involved in various community associations and has been a Rotary Paul Harris member since 2002. Brad has served as president of Washington Independent Distributors of Energy from 2008 to 2010, Western Petroleum Marketers Association (WPMA) president in 2015 to 2016, and 1st and 2nd vice chair of Energy Marketers of America (EMA). He has further served EMA as Motor Fuels chair from 2011 to 2014, Small Business Committee Political Action (SBC PAC) co-chair 2015 to 2021 and is currently the 2024 EMA chair.

Brad attended Columbia Basin College and Central Washington University before starting in the petroleum industry. Brad and his wife Sanna enjoy traveling, fine wines, college football and basketball, Green Bay Packers football, boating, fishing, hunting, playing golf and spending time with their family.

After a 10-year, multipleassignment career with ExxonMobil, Jim began the operation of his own company in 1978. Operations began as a secondary bulk plant supplying fuel and lubricant products to customers in a three-county area in northwest Mississippi. Today, the company operates multiple convenience stores and supplies bulk fuels to dealer customers marketing ExxonMobil and Shell products in northwest Mississippi and southeast Arkansas. Parker, Jim’s son, leads the company alongside his father.

Jim has had a dedicated commitment to our industry. He was appointed as chair by the governor to the original Mississippi Groundwater Protection Advisory Committee, which worked alongside the Mississippi DEQ (MSDEQ) to formulate the Groundwater Trust. Today, his services continue as chair of the Mississippi Underground Storage Tank Advisory Committee, consulting concerning compliance, regulatory and financial matters affecting MSDEQ and petroleum marketers across the state.

Jim, or Gen. Lipscomb, is a veteran serving in the United States Army and serving in numerous command positions in the Mississippi Army National Guard. He was appointed by the governor as the adjutant general of Mississippi. In this position, Maj. Gen. Lipscomb served on the governor’s cabinet and commanded the Army and Air Guard of Mississippi.

Jim has served as a director of Federated Mutual Insurance Company for the last 28 years. He also serves as a director of Guaranty Bank and Trust Company, a large community bank headquartered in Mississippi. He is serving in various capacities of his St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Diocese of Jackson.

Jim’s wife, Mary Lynn, his high school sweetheart, have a family of five. Family time with their children and 13 grandchildren is special to them. Jim and Mary Lynn are both graduates of Mississippi State University, and spending time attending and watching the Mississippi State Bulldogs is a family favorite.

Glenn Hasken is a distinguished figure in the petroleum industry whose career spans more than three decades of dedicated service and leadership. After a decadelong tenure at Conoco Inc. and four years of honorable service in the United States Air Force, he began his journey with Molo Companies in 1999.

As Molo Companies’ chief operating officer, Glenn has played a pivotal role in guiding the company through significant growth over his 25-year tenure.

Glenn’s leadership roles within the energy sector are a reflection of his continued dedication and expertise. He plays a pivotal role in advocating for fuel marketers and convenience retailers across the country and the state of Iowa. His influence extends nationally, currently serving as the 2nd Vice Chair of EMA. Since 2011, Glenn has been an EMA Board member representing Iowa and chaired the North Central Region from 2015 to 2019. Additionally, he led the Motor Fuels Committee from 2020 to 2023.

Glenn’s strategic vision is not limited to the business world — it is complemented by his deep-rooted commitment to community involvement. He has served as the chair of the American Heart Association of Eastern Iowa for three years, the Asbury Iowa Park Board for four years, and participated on the St. Anthony’s Parish Council for five years. Glenn has been a director on the Camp Courageous Board since 2021. Camp Courageous provides exceptional year-round recreational, respite and travel opportunities for all individuals with disabilities and their families.

Family is at the heart of Glenn’s life. He and his wife, Tina — his high school sweetheart — are proud parents to three children and three grandchildren. They embody the values of hard work, integrity and community service, with education equally important. Glenn earned a Bachelor of Science in business management from Covenant College, and both he and Tina are first-generation college graduates. Their three children have proudly followed suit, each earning college degrees. Currently residing in Dubuque, Iowa, their greatest joy comes from entertaining and hosting family gatherings at their home and spending time outdoors by the pool, hiking, biking and running.

Jason Mirabito is senior vice president of wholesale fuels and logistics at Mirabito Energy Products. Jason has been an integral part of his family-owned and -operated business since 1999. He has served in many capacities while learning the business, including project manager, pricing and supply manager, sales and supply manager, and vice president of sales and marketing.

Jason serves on boards in the industry including the Empire State Energy Association (ESEA) and the Energy Marketers of America (formerly Petroleum Marketers of America Association). He participates on the Motor Fuels and Convenience Store Committee for EMA as well as the Heating Oil, Propane and Independent Energy Committee for ESEA. Prior to mid-2021 when Jason became second vice chair, he had acted as the Northeast Region Chair and New York state representative for EMA.

Jason resides in Skaneateles, New York, with wife Shannon, son Spencer and his 18-month-old daughter Grace and loves to go boating and play golf.
