Preserving a Beacon of Hope

Through the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant, Miami Dade College was awarded $500,000 to preserve the Freedom Tower, a National Historic Landmark. The grant is part of NEH’s $28.1 million effort to further humanities research in addition to increasing the accessibility of public programs, cultural and archival materials, as well as educational resources for large audiences. Since 2005, when the Freedom Tower was donated to MDC, it has hosted dozens of exhibitions and events featuring national and international artists, heads of state, dignitaries, scholars, renowned authors, actors, musicians and celebrities. This investment builds upon the $25 million investment awarded to MDC from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to help restore the Freedom Tower.
