Organizers of the beloved event – which packs Downtown Mi-ami with more than 400 au-thors, hundreds of exhibitors, hundreds of thousands of book lovers and millions of books – have declared Nov. 20 “Wimpy Kid Sunday,” lining up activities inspired by the latest book in the series, The Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever , and even including a street full of snow brought in by truck. Since the series debuted in 2007, an astounding 56 million copies of Kinney’s Wimpy Kid books have been printed. “We are really excited about the Fair this year,” said Alina Interián, executive director of The Center for Literature and Theater @ MDC, which produces the Fair. “Jeff was here in 2008 and created our of-ficial poster in 2009. The popularity of his books is just more proof that kids are reading and that they get hyped about books, and that gives me great hope for the future.” Continued on Page 16 carnegie corporation Lauds MDc President The Board of Trustees of the prestigious Carnegie Corporation of New York has awarded Miami Dade College President Dr. Eduar-do J. Padrón with the 2011 Carnegie Corporation Aca-demic Leadership Award, which includes $500,000 in unrestricted funds for the MDC president to use for academic initiatives. Miami Dade College’s ex-emplary record of student achievement has earned the College accolades in the past year by the nation’s top granting and education-al organizations, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation , the Lumi-na Foundation and the Aspen Institute , along with many others (see article on Page 5).
