Meet MDC Board of Trustees Member Benjamín León III As former President and COO and current Executive Vice Chairman of the renowned Leon Medical Centers, Benjamín León III has been instrumental in guiding the organization to be a leader in the health care industry. He began his career as a customer service representative for Clínica Cubana, which his family opened in the 1960s. He joined Miami Dade College’s Board of Trustees in 2007. In 2012 MDC’s School of Nursing received a $5 million donation from León Medical Centers and was renamed the Benjamín León School of Nursing. In addition, León has been involved in many charitable organizations including the American Cancer Society. Outside of his community-oriented work, León’s love of family, horses and boating encompass his life. Recently, Leon Medical Centers took steps to aid 2017 hurricane victims. In addition to donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross in Miami to help Hurricane Harvey victims in Southern Texas, the company shipped $500,000 worth of medical supplies to aid Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.
