10 MDC Study Abroad Options Available for Summer 2018 Miami Dade College students now have even more options for earning academic credit while also satisfying their wanderlust. The Office of International Education has announced 10 new faculty-led study abroad programs for summer 2018, where students have the opportunity to spend one to four weeks learning – and exploring – in a foreign country. Students can choose from programs in Western Europe (England, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Italy, Scotland, Spain); Eastern Europe (Czech Republic, Slovakia); Africa (Morocco, South Africa); the Middle East (United Arab Emirates); and Asia (Indonesia). “Study abroad plays an important role in the personal development of MDC students, particularly because, for many of them, it marks the first time they are leaving the United States,” said Director of Global Student Programs Carol Reyes. “It’s an important milestone for students and their families.” For the first time, the summer study abroad program options include a course in Earth Literacy and Sustainability, which will be taught in Iceland. “Students will have a chance to explore alternative energy resources and compare and contrast the effects of climate change in Iceland’s Nordic climate with Miami’s tropical climate,” Reyes said. Another new summer 2018 course is Introduction to Literature, which is sure to attract fantasy lovers. The course will be conducted in England, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland and will focus on the literature-to-screen adaptions of the Harry Potter and Game of Thrones books. – AP
