New Program Responds to Demand for Cybersecurity Professionals As digital business grows, unfortunately so has the frequency and sophistication of cybercrime. Today’s enterprises are taking added precautions to reduce security breaches, placing the demand for digital crime specialists at an all-time high. Miami Dade College’s new Digital Forensics College Credit Certificate (CCC) provides students with an accelerated credential and the corresponding workforce skills needed to enter this rapidly growing industry. “The Digital Forensics CCC is a collaboration with MDC’s School of Engineering and Technology." said Dr. Raimundo Socorro, the dean of MDC’s School of Justice. “The certificate is embedded into the Computer Crime Investigation Associate in Science (A.S.) degree program, which allows students to apply certificate credits to toward their A.S.” Besides allowing students to earn multiple credentials on their way toward graduation, Socorro said the accelerated certificate program is also ideal for individuals already working in the field of cybersecurity. “It offers a time-and cost-effective opportunity to specialize in a new area without having to commit to an entire degree program,” he said. Students enrolled in the digital forensics certificate program can expect to learn basic and advanced security concepts, as well as computer/ mobile forensics investigations, incident handling and response, and legislation and processes related to digital forensics. “Digital forensic specialists have work opportunities in various growing industries,” Socorro said. “These include both public and private security firms, as well as government agencies.” – AVG
