The sweet sounds of jazz were alive at MDC this fall as Jazz at Wolfson Presents, the longest continuously running jazz series in Miami-Dade County, kicked off its highly anticipated 20th anniversary season. The celebration began in September with a spectacular performance by the MDC Jazz Faculty Quintet, featuring some of South Florida’s finest musicians, including Latin Grammy award-winning saxophonist Ed Calle, guitarist and MDC jazz studies professor Dr. Michael Di Liddo, pianist Jim Gasior, bassist Gary Thomas and drummer Rodolfo Zúñiga. In October, celebrated musician Mark Colby delighted audiences with a smooth performance on the saxophone. “The series has proven to be a significant addition to what had previously been offered to our jazz students,” said Di Liddo, who founded the series. “It has also become an important cultural offering not only for MDC, but for Downtown Miami.” This season of Jazz at Wolfson Presents will feature eight additional shows, peppered throughout the year, including performances from world-renowned jazz musicians such as vibraphonist Rusty Burge, the group Aaron Lebos Reality, trumpeter/vocalist Bria Skonberg and more. All shows are free and open to the public. – AVG
