In addition to being known as a model academic institution of higher learning, Miami Dade College is also as an art collecting institution. For more than 50 years, the arts have played an important role in the cultural and educational life at the College. MDC owns thousands of works in its permanent collection and has been instrumental in the development of the visual arts in South Florida. Long-format installations grace the grounds of the College’s eight campuses while its many other impressive pieces are frequently exhibited at campus galleries and at the MDC Museum of Art + Design (MOAD) at the Freedom Tower – in itself a National Historic Landmark known for both its historical and architectural significance. MDC’s permanent collection comprises works by significant 20th-century artists, including: ■ William Cordova ■ Lynne Golob Gelfman ■ Richard Haas ■ Duane Hanson ■ Alex Katz ■ Roy Lichtenstein ■ Pat Lipsky ■ Ana Mendieta ■ Arnold Mesches ■ Louise Nevelson ■ Andres Serrano ■ Elena Sisto ■ Frank Stella ■ Robert Thiele ■ Andy Warhol ■ Jaimie Warren ■ William Wegman ... and more.
