Fall is in full swing at Miami Dade College. That means a wealth of opportunity to experience unique and immersive exhibitions by both new and renowned artists from all over the world. The following are just a few of the many recently held and upcoming art events throughout MDC’s eight campus galleries. MDC, North and InterAmerican campuses, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Israel in Miami, recently hosted Wonder Woman, an extraordinary art exhibit highlighting the struggles and great resilience of women. The exhibit featured works by 21 Israeli artists, each depicting their own definition of a heroine. The variety of works were thought-provoking and provided a unique opportunity for viewers to gain insight on the strife of womanhood through visual stories. Meanwhile, MDC, West Campus, in collaboration with Contemporary Art Projects USA, is currently hosting Under the Sea ... Inside the Pool by artist Henrik Welle. In this exhibit, Welle showcases his talent and passion for underwater photography with a collection of distinct images captured in the ocean or inside the pool. The colorful works are complemented by a group of seven photographs of marine corals and plants also by Welle. Under the Sea ... Inside the Pool will be on display through December 11. At Homestead Art Space, art lovers can delight in South Florida Paintings by Luis Nuñez, on display through January 12. This exhibition of paintings by Florida artist Luis Nuñez features the diversity of landscapes that makes the peninsula’s southern region a unique place. Hialeah Gallery is currently hosting Held Hostage by the Sea (Cautivos del Mar) by Cuban artist R.G. Serrano. On display through December 8, Serrano’s latest exhibition is an impressive tribute to all those who in one way or another have fought for democracy, freedom and human rights, including Cuba’s Ladies in White and the Tugboat March 13, among other tragic events where lives were lost while crossing the sea. At Kendall Gallery, emerging artists show off their talents at the12th Annual Quest for Peace Student Art Competition and Exhibition, taking place through December 15. The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Miami Dadeland-Pinecrest in honor of philosopher and artist Robert Horowitz. – AVG
