Miami Book Fair Brings World-Class Authors to the Magic City Miami Dade College’s acclaimed Miami Book Fair (MBF) recently celebrated its 34th year at MDC, Wolfson Campus in Downtown Miami. The lively event featured more than 500 authors from the U.S. and around the world reading from new works and participating in discussions on myriad topics. The festivities kicked off with a lineup of exciting pre-fair events including evenings with the legendary Art Garfunkel, who discussed his new memoir What Is It All but Luminous: Notes from an Underground Man; and beloved U.S. astronaut Scott Kelly as he presented his memoir, Endurance: A Year in Space, A Lifetime of Discovery. Young book lovers also had a chance to meet celebrated children’s book author Jeff Kinney, who introduced the 12th book of his popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, The Getaway. During the weekend Street Fair, the Festival of Authors, panels and presentations included worldwide bestselling author Isabel Allende, who talked about her latest novel, In the Midst of Winter; Walter Isaacson discussing Leonardo da Vinci; and Salman Rushdie and his latest novel, The Golden House: A Novel. Former Vice President Joe Biden shared the story of losing his son Beau in Promise Me, Dad: A Year of Hope, Hardship, and Purpose. Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush examined their book, Sisters First: Stories from Our Wild and Wonderful Life, while news anchor Dan Rather discussed his new book, What Unites Us. Festival-goers also had an opportunity to see culinary pros including award-winning chef Matt Jennings, Jim Lahey and Maricel Presilla share their cooking philosophies and demonstrate their recipes at the Fair’s culinary crossroads, Kitchen Stadium, while The Porch, a multi-disciplinary performance and gathering space, returned with a variety of live music and off-beat literary activities. MBF also once again hosted the celebrated Children’s Alley with author presentations, live music, performances and much more. – OM
