Miami Dade College’s student newspaper, The Reporter, has been named the top college newspaper in the state by the Florida College System Publications Association (FSCPA) for the seventh consecutive year. The Reporter staff placed in 12 of 18 individual categories – including six first- place awards – at the recent FCSPA awards event in Orlando recognizing newspapers printed during the 2016-17 school year. The paper has won 100 awards from the FCSPA in the past seven years, including 58 first-place honors. In addition to placing first in overall excellence, individuals won first place honors for In-Depth Reporting, News Story, Humor Column, Picture Story, Editorial Cartoon and Design. The Reporter was previously the winner of the Pacemaker Award, a national honor awarded by the Associated Collegiate Press to the country’s preeminent college newspapers.
