Miami Dade College’s nationally recognized literary magazines were honored again this year, with six different MDC campus publications winning multiple state, regional and national awards for their superb creative writing, photography and design in 2017. Café Cultura at Hialeah Campus and Miamibiance at Kendall Campus were both the winners of Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Circle awards, one of the nation’s top student journalism honors. Those publications, in addition to Estuaries at Homestead Campus, Urbana at InterAmerican Campus, Axis at North Campus and Metromorphosis at Wolfson Campus received multiple accolades from the Florida College System Press Association, including four first-place awards for Urbana and three first-place awards for Estuaries. Axis was also a finalist for collegiate journalism’s preeminent Pacemaker Award, as well as a finalist for the College Media Association’s Pinnacle Award for two-year Literary Magazine of the Year.
