Adriana de la Torre is a talented creative who is fiercely dedicated to her craft – and her efforts have certainly paid off. The New World School of the Arts (NWSA) student was named a 2017 U.S. Presidential Scholar, recognized for both her artistic and academic accomplishments. She joins an elite group of 19 students from NWSA who have earned this esteemed distinction since the award’s inception in 1994. “I am just grateful to be a part of this amazing recognition. I owe it all to the incredible support and guidance I’ve received from my teachers at New World School of the Arts,” said de la Torre. In addition to an impressive résumé, which includes attending a summer, pre-college art program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and an internship with a photography studio in Amsterdam, Holland, de la Torre also boasts a remarkable academic achievement – a 5.9 GPA which placed her in the top five percent of her class. And, her scholarship offers totaled more than $2,000,000 from some of the most respected college arts programs in the country, including Maryland Institute College of Art, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Parsons, Tufts University and California Institute of the Arts. After careful consideration, de la Torre decided to start the next chapter of her career at New York City’s The Cooper Union, ranked by U.S. News & World Report in 2017 as number one in Regional Colleges North. “Everything Adriana does, she does with passion, commitment, care and kindness,” said NWSA visual arts teacher Jennifer Gifford. “She has an incredible work ethic and tremendous self-discipline. Her artistic works range from sophisticated illustrations and photo-collages to conceptual sculptures.”
