Rising Stars Showcase Honors Alumni and Partners In honor of its 30th anniversary milestone, New World School of the Arts (NWSA) paid tribute to its students, alumni and educational partners with a special edition of its annual Rising Stars Showcase. It all began with the Rising Stars Exhibition, which drew over 400 guests to the New World Gallery who enjoyed a carefully curated show featuring NWSA’s top talent. More than two dozen works of art were on display, ranging from video installations to paintings and performance art to sculpture. The celebration continued with the 30th anniversary Rising Stars performance showcase, a festive evening of dance, music and theater at the historic Olympia Theater in Downtown Miami. NWSA dancers enthralled audience members with a high-energy performance, which included an excerpt of Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s exuberant work, Nube Blanco. The orchestra pit came alive with the sounds of the NWSA Symphony Orchestra, which performed various pieces including the fast-paced and ever-popular Overture from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. The theater division also showed off remarkable talent with numerous renditions of popular musicals, including Jekyll and Hyde. Among the evening’s highlights was the moment NWSA Provost Dr. Jeffrey Hodgson and NWSA High School Principal Evonne Alvarez expressed their appreciation to three institutional partners by recognizing Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, Miami Dade College President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón and University of Florida President Dr. W. Kent Fuchs. Each was presented with a special gift as they offered inspiring words and anniversary wishes to New World School of the Arts.
