With a launch event attended by industry leaders, including Juan Del Busto, chairman and CEO, Del Busto Capital Partners, Miami Dade College unveiled MDC Accelerate, a Competency-Based Education (CBE) program. The competency-based approach is an individualized, accelerated academic pathway that allows students the flexibility to self-direct their learning experience. Busy, working adults can apply their real-world experience, knowledge and skills toward earning college credits or a credential, such as a College Credit Certificate. Rather than registering for individual courses each term, students register for an entire program at once, which consists of online modules created from various courses that are broken down into key competencies. This allows students to go at their own pace and spend more time on the content they need, not on content they already know. Once they master all the program modules and successfully complete online performance assessments, students receive a College Credit Certificate. Furthermore, CBE certificates can transition into a degree program at MDC, advancing a student’s career path. The initial four programs being offered at MDC include Banking Operations/Banking Specialist, Building Construction Specialist, Food and Beverage Specialist and Rooms Division Specialist.
