Miami Dade College opened doors to both China and England for Matthew Núñez. Núñez is currently studying economics and finance at the University of Manchester in England and is on pace to graduate in 2018. This fall he will head back to Beijing for intensive Chinese language studies at the prestigious Tsinghua University. It was through the Confucius Institute at MDC, Wolfson Campus that Núñez began taking Mandarin classes. In the summer of 2014, he was awarded a scholarship to participate in a camp program in Beijing. “Now I am able to speak Mandarin at a business-proficient level,” said Núñez. In 2015, Núñez earned an internship in the Libra Group’s Lomar shipping division in London, where he focused on logistics and finance. While in London, he applied to several schools and was ultimately accepted into Manchester, which is ranked among the top 50 universities in the world. “MDC helped me find my path,” Núñez said. “First, they offered Mandarin classes, which developed my interests. Second, they offered an amazing internship through their partnership with the Libra Group.”
