Miami Dade College’s Learning Resources is soaking in the praise after winning two prestigious awards this year. Two MDC initiatives recently earned a 2017 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award from the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). The ACRL commended the College for its innovative “Library on the Fly” program and “Service Learning Activity Project,” both of which encourage a love for literacy and emphasize student success. “This award is a validation and a timely recognition of the valuable work that the Miami Dade College libraries have done over the years to support and enrich the learning process at our institution,” said Erick J. Dominicis, the collegewide director of Learning Resources. ACRL President Irene M.H. Herold said MDC’s Learning Resources demonstrated an ability to work as a team across campuses in the development of academic libraries that champion student outcome above all else. “I was continually struck by how truly transformative the hard work MDC undertook was and the amazing results of increased community engagement, learning and scholarship,” Herold said. MDC was also the recipient of the 2017 Learning Resources Commission Exemplary Practice Award from the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC). Dominicis will accept the award during the AFC’s annual conference in November. – AP
