OMG! KID’S CORNER & YOUNG MINDS youngminds Cash Goes Navy BY MARGARET LINEN Every year Ujima takes time to congratulate all graduates. This year we would like to introduce you to one young man we are very proud of Elijah K. Cash. Cash, of LBJ High School, a straight A senior has accepted a full football scholarship to attend the United States Naval Academy. He is the 12th Central Texas football player to sign with a service academy in the past 3 years. As a wide reciever at LBJ High School, he had 32 passes and ran for over 600 yards. In an interview on Wednesday, February 25, 2010, Cash addressed themedia, family, school officials and well wishers. Cash said his overall priority is to get a great education with that his future can only go up! Cash is simply overwhelmed and amazed but yet remains humble in spirit. Other honors bestowed upon Cash, was the 2010 Greater Austin Chapter National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete from LBJ High School. Also, Cash, was nominated as a candidate for presentation during the 2010 Jack and Jill Beautillion held in Austin, Texas on Saturday, June 19, 2010 . Elijah Cash will be leaving for the United Stated Naval Academy inmid July, hats off and kudos to this youngman! Ujima also sends Congratulations to: Christian Bowser Christian O’Keeve Bowser graduated from Hendrickson High School and plans to attend Austin Community College majoring in Computer Science. Jordan Lewis Jordan graduated June 5, 2010 from Pflugerville High School, Jordan will be attending Univ of Houston Main Campus in the fall majoring in Journalism. kids’ corner Book of theMonth THE BRAND NEWDOLL By Akua Lewis Ujima had the privilege to nterview a very talented and young author. UM: When you are not playing with your dolls and not writing what other things do you like to do? AL: I like playing soccer and singing. UM: What would you like to tell someone your age interested in writing? AL: I would tell them to use their imagination,and write everyday.Write what you know about. NoMush Today By Sally Derby Nonie is a little girl who had a baby brother that cried a lot, and her mother feed her “MUSH” for breakfast everyday. Nonie decided to go and live with her grandma, to get away from both her baby brother and the mush. After spending a day with her grandma and her family, everyone got ready to go home. Nonie had a change of heart and after seeing how excited her baby brother was to see her she decided to go back and spend one more night at home. Her mother decided not to have “mush” everymorning.
