Teatro Prometeo Adds Humor to Tale of Romeo and Juliet Acclaimed playwright Johnny Acero’s comedic vision of a married Romeo and Juliet debuted this spring at MDC’s Koubek Center. Romeo vs. Julieta is set 20 years after the wedding, with the Montagues and the Capulets making their peace as their children grapple with boredom, suspicions and jealousies. Teatro Prometeo performed Romeo vs. Julieta this spring. “This is something new and fresh. We are out to support playwrights and give our repertory company cutting-edge material to share with the community,” said Teatro Prometeo Executive Director Joann María Yarrow. The Spanish-language comedy featured performances by Pier Lendaro, Florencia Loguzzo, D’Artagnan Gutiérrez, Hannah Ghelman, Mariel Corona, Jonny López and Marise Jiménez, with live music by Fabian Prieto. Teatro Prometeo was founded more than 45 years ago and continues to remain a cultural treasure, having produced and presented countless theater productions, several international tours, master workshops, international theater festivals and television programs, as well as short films. Teatro Prometeo at MDC is nationally recognized as the only Spanish-language theater conservatory and professional repertory under an academic institution that continues to showcase Miami’s diverse talent throughout both Latin America and the United States.
