EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP Kids in the community enjoyed meeting with MDC’s basketball team The biggest win of the season for the Miami Dade College’s basketball team came not against a rival school, but instead in a visit out into the community. Sharks coach Kevin Ledoux, along with assistant Ward Griffith, took the team to Kendall’s Boys & Girls Club of Miami-Dade, where a magical time was had by all. “The kids at the club – who range in age from 8 to 19 – had their eyes wide open when they saw how tall our guys are,” Ledoux said. Indeed, Marko Krivacevic, a native of Hungary, is the tallest Sharks player at 6-foot-9, and Ricardo Lynch is not far behind at 6-7. Five more Sharks players are between 6-4 and 6-6. “The kids enjoyed seeing our guys dunk the ball,” Ledoux said. Sporting gray T-shirts that read “Miami Dade Sharks,” the kids looked the part of serious basketball aficionados. The MDC players, meanwhile, wore their blue shorts and jerseys with the words “Miami Dade” across the top of their shirts. “We showed the kids how we practice,” Ledoux said. “We had the kids do some drills and then we talked to them about the importance of education. “It was great. The kids took photos with our guys. It was special to the kids, and it was special to our guys, who enjoy giving back to this community.” – WV
