MDC’s School of Education is partnering with the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science to bring the new Early Childhood Hands-On Science (ECHOS) program to Exploration Station. Exploration Station was originally set to be a pilot site, but the Frost Museum ECHOS program developer quickly realized that the students attending MDC’s demonstration preschool were already too advanced for the planned lessons. “When they brought the curricula to our classroom of four-year-olds, they found out that because of our STEM focus, the children already had all the skills,” said Dr. Susan Neimand, the dean of MDC’s School of Education. Instead, the Frost Museum will work with Lianys Martínez and Fred Paredes, teachers at the Exploration Station, as well as the Exploration Station’s young scientists- in-training, to create modules for a second-level curriculum that will advance the scope of ECHOS.
