Kansas City Barbeque Society – America’s Barbeque Experts!® APRIL 2016 Postmaster: Dated Material. Please deliver by April 10, 2016 The Monthly Publication of the Kansas City Barbeque Society Kookers Kare Says “BBQ People Really Are the Best” Kookers Kare 2016 Winter FunFest was again a great start to the BBQ season. There was plenty of friendly competition at the BBQ Olympics. At stake was a prized everyone coveted… prime spots on the food line. First up was Pig Newton’s table with an astronomical score that probably made up for last year when they were the last table to eat. We may have to review the video tape replay. Seriously, everyone enjoyed the games and we hope to top this year’s theme with something just as fun next year. We raffled off 35 BBQ contest entries thanks to organizers around the country who donated to Kookers Kare. Those contests will be part of the Kookers Kare BBQ Series. Your best 6 scores in the 4 meat cat-egories and your overall placement, will qualify you for cash and prizes at the 2017 Kookers Kare Winter FunFest. Check out the details and sign up at our website, KookersKare.com. We also had scores of door prizes donated by local businesses, sports teams, BBQ teams and individuals. The list of prizes increases each year and gets more diverse. The side dishes that everyone brought were amazing as usual and the 2 hogs provided by Kurzweils’ Country Meats and KCBS must have been good, there was less than a pound left at the end of the night. Thanks to the 300 people attending (another sellout crowd) we collected over 1900 lbs. of non-perishable food which is better than last year. The food was distributed between two food pantries, one in Belton and one in Liberty. The money raised from the raffles will be donated to food pantries around the Midwest, and used to buy turkeys for families in the fall. Kookers Kare also supports Harvesters BackSnack program each year with a cash donation. The program provides a weekly backpack filled with nutritious, child-friendly food for schoolchildren to take home over the weekend. More than 100,000 children in Harvesters' service area receive free and reduced-price school meals during the week, and many of those are at risk of hunger on weekends. The committee members and volunteers of Kookers Kare would like to thank all of our sponsors and the BBQ community for helping make this another great event. We look forward to seeing you out on the BBQ trail.
