Banker Built Leadership Skills At MDC

Global banking powerhouse BBVA is well known throughout the world. The financial services company has a presence in Europe, South America and the U.S. Sunbelt states, serving over 51 million customers in more than 31 countries. In South Florida, BBVA Compass has only just now begun to soar, thanks to the efforts of MDC alumnus Roberto R. Muñoz.

The hard work of Muñoz recently led to his receiving the Business Ambassador Award from Florida Gov. Rick Scott.

Muñoz, who graduated from MDC in 1977, was born in Panama. He came to Miami as a toddler, then from ages 9 to 15 he lived in Hong Kong, where his father worked as a high-ranking official for Pan American Airlines and his mother served as a NATO commander. Soon after the family returned to Miami, Muñoz got his first taste of higher education at MDC.

“I didn’t realize then that Miami Dade College would turn into such an international college,” he said. “But it has become just that under the guidance of MDC President Dr. Eduardo Padrón. Miami is blessed to have him as a leader.”
